Golfers and Shepherds

The angels showed up at the golf club.

It’s a story which very few know.

The message the same: “A child has been born!

It’s good news! Now, right, off you go!”

Bethlehem Municipal Golf Club,

The young, middle aged and the old.

It’s a good class of folk you will find there,

But they don’t really like to be told…

Told, “Tidings for all which we all need to hear.

A child born today, born for you!”

See, the idea the golfers would get up and go,

“I’m sorry that’s not what we do.”

The Chairman stood up and on clearing his throat

Said, “Thank you, but really, we’re fine.

Our dinner will be along shortly

And we’ve only just opened the wine.”

See, some aren’t quite sure about Christmas.

“A saviour for us, born for ME?”

But others, it’s often the poorest,

Seem much more in touch with their needs.

Later that night in the Bethlehem hills

Just after a fresh fall of snow,

The same angels appear to six shepherds,

Who quickly respond, “Let us go!”
