R. S. Thomas said: 'God has given the answer to suffering in the Incarnation and the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ.... I think the Cross, the ability of God to cope with this ultimate question of the mind and the heart, his ability to do this by suffering himself lifts it out of time and space into eternity.'
