Flame-dancing Spirit, come,
Sweep off our feet and
Dance us through our days.
Surprise us with your rhythms,
Dare us to try new steps, explore
New patterns and new partnerships.
Release us from old routines,
To swing in abandoned joy
And fearful adventure.
And in the intervals,
Rest us, in your still centre.
Ann Lewin, in Watching for the Kingfisher’ (2009)
Meg Orr (Chester le Street) explains: 'Working alongside our Creator God is his gift of the Holy Sprit; the spark, the motivator, the spirit of adventure. I call this the creative Spirit which keeps us alive to God, driving us to be open to new experiences and life in abundance.' Ann Lewin, the poet, started from small beginnings as a self-published writer producing booklets in response to demand from people who attended her retreats or quiet days. She has gone on to become one of the most successful writers of prayers and reflective poetry. She is much in demand as a retreat leader. She was a secondary school teacher (RE and English) for 27 years, and later Welfare Advisor for International Students at the University of Southampton. She has also worked tutoring ordinands at Sarum College.
